Ok, you asked for it! So here is my post all about Foxy Madsen, our rescue Border Collie :)
Well. We weren't really looking for a dog. The boys had been asking for a puppy for a while...come on what little boy doesn't ask! We were thinking about getting a Yorkie or a small lap dog. And I mean "thinking about it!"
My husband ran outside REALLY late like 1am or something to make sure our 4 wheeler was put away. He found a cold, wet doggy on our porch! She was so nice and since it was winter, we put her in our garage overnight thinking we would look for her owners in the morning. She had a pink collar on and was SO NICE we knew someone was looking for her. So morning comes and I take a picture and send it to everyone in town. I even put it on our towns Facebook group page. No one knew this doggy! In the meantime our boys fell in love with her and named "HIM" Fox. I would let her go during the days hoping that she would go home but every night she turned up on our porch. This went on for several days. The city ended up picking her up since she was getting other dogs in the neighborhood wound up. We though about Fox all weekend and decided we'd call the city on Monday and see if she had been claimed by her owners.
Well on Sunday night her picture popped up on our states Dog Rescue Group Facebook page! They named her "Peyton" and were looking for a home for her. I called them immediately and started the adoption papers. We were so excited! Well there was some miscommunication and our city ended up adopting out the dog to another family in town. We were SO SAD but figured there was nothing we could do about it.
1 week later...guess who shows up on our porch! Fox! She had a new collar on but she was the same sweet doggy. We kept her over the weekend in our backyard til we could call the city and find out who adopted her. Turns out, she ran away from their house and came back to us!! Everyone invovlved agreed that the dog picked her home and she picked US! So Fox, who we had to convince the boys is a GIRL, turned into Foxy :)
In this picture, my little guy looked at me and said, "We look alike don't we Mom." Too cute!!
She is the happiest thing and hasn't given us any grief at all! Oh except for chewing up one of my Toms . But I quickly forgave her :) The city thinks that the family probably moved and just left her behind. I am a firm believer that rescue dogs KNOW that they are rescued and are always wanting to show how much they love their new family. She is a dream dog for our family and we love her so much! People who are not "dog people" have told me they are "Foxy people" :) Including my parents who fell in love over a weekend visit!
A little piece of my life. We are happy and grateful that we can benefit from the the love that Foxy has to give!!!
Thanks for stopping by! I will be back on Friday with another great project :)

I love her! What a great story! We love our dog Jasper very much, he's a beagle with 1/4 blue heeler and he adores me and snuggles me, and is literally my best friend!
ReplyDeleteWe had a border collie growing up and I think it was the smartest dog I have ever encountered. I don't have any pets now and I have to say I sure miss having a pet around. I have been unemployed for a couple of years now and its been pretty boring.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like Foxy fits perfect into your family!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great story!!! Thanks for sharing how you got "Foxy". It is amazing how a dog knows where its home is. Glad your family was given the chance to share your love with this dog.
ReplyDeleteWell, I have to agree that she did pick you! She probably just loves your famiy!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat story! We have a rescue beagle named Geronimo, we are firm believers in rescue dogs!
ReplyDeleteGlad you found her... or she found you. ;)
ReplyDeleteVery cute! Boys have a smile like yours! They are very handsome!
ReplyDeleteoh how adorable! i love the story really is very sweet. The close up pic of Foxy reminds me of my dog which sad to say died by rabies bitten by another dog.

What a wonderful story! I love a happy ending. :)
ReplyDeleteI have a couple of neighbors who have adopted rescue dogs, and they say the same thing about their pups - sweet-tempered, and just thankful animals (if that makes sense). I'm so happy that Foxy has found a permanent home in your family!
Awwww, she is so sweet!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a sweet story! Shes a beautiful addition to your family!
ReplyDeleteAwww how sweet. Yes I truly think dogs pick their owners....

That's a great story! I'm so glad it all worked out for your family. She was just meant for you :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing :)
I love this. I am so happy you gave her a home. With the economy getting on the bad end of things, there is so many family's that choose to dump there pets to be able to survive. I see it all the time. I am a major animal lover and animals know it. They know where to go and sense thinks we would never be able too. I have had many dogs show up on my doorstep. My most recent was a Border collie too. She was so sweet. But she had a surprise for me. She was pregnant. Found me and stayed. She had her puppies within a few days. I moved her and her babies in my garage and cared for them. I even helped her out by making homemade formula at 3 weeks because she wasn't producing enough milk. I put an ad in the paper and found homes for all her puppies and figured if I cant find her a home then we would keep her although I already had 3 dogs and 2 cats. But to my surprise she was the first to find a loving home with a country boy that rode horses and wanted her to be his companion and go with him on his rides. I love that Foxy knew where she wanted to be. Congratulations for Foxy having a wonderful home now where she knows she will be loved. I love your pics.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet story. She was meant to be your family's dog. She knew where she truly belonged. Congrats!!

ReplyDeleteYour story would be my daughter's dream come true! She wants a dog so bad, especially a border collie. I am so glad that she has found a home with you!
ReplyDeleteI love how quickly Foxy has became a part of your sweet family!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet story! Sounds like Foxy is one happy doggy!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely story. Your boys are precious with that dog and are definitely giving her the love she needs.
ReplyDeleteYou can see the love in your boys eyes and in Foxy!!!! Such a sweet, wonderful and happy story.......thank you so much for sharing....
ReplyDeleteSo glad Foxy found you! I agree, dogs pick their family and he chose a great family. All of you look so happy! A great, happy ending for all.
ReplyDeleteI have always said the same thing about rescued dogs, they just seem to know and love their new family the more for it. She is a beautiful dog. And the last pic of your son saying they look alike is priceless! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad Foxy found her people! Pets add so much to our lives. I believe that dogs and cats pick their owners. Our youngest cat was rescued from drowning by my sweetie while on a fishing trip. So he calls her his cat. She, however, has chosen me. I sit down she sits on me. I lay down, she lays just behind me, or drapped over me. It's obvious from all the pix that she loves the family she chose.
ReplyDeleteI love your story. We too had a 1/2 border collie "adopt" us, and she was the best dog I ever had in my life. She passed away at 15 1/2 years old, but our family has been touched by her forever. Borders are really smart. We taught our to do a lot of tricks, and she was always happy to entertain people with them.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations and may you have many happy years with her!
Valarie
Such a wonderful story. She was meant to be with your family. Sounds like Foxy will have a wonderful new life thanks to you.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great story! She truly was meant to be with your family. As an owner of a rescue dog, I agree that the dog chooses his/her forever home, not the other way around, and your family was blessed that she chose yours!
ReplyDeleteBorder Collies are the best dogs ever! Mine turned 14 in January! They are wonderful pets, they love to run and run. They do need a lot of exercise, which I'm sure your boys will be able to handle! You and your family got a very special gift in this dog! I'm so happy for you all! Give Foxy a big hug for me!
ReplyDeleteSmartest and cutest dog ever...SHE picked YOU guys! I love the photo of her lying on your son's lap...adorable. Just remember to buy one of those automatic room vacuums ..you'll be needing it! LOL ENJOY.
ReplyDeleteGreat pics!

Absolutely and completely true! Rescue dogs DO KNOW they have been given a second chance and they make THE BEST additions to one's family. Your Foxy is a lucky lady to have found you. Bless you Erin for giving this girl a great home!
ReplyDeleteAdorable!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun story! We have 2 rescue dogs also, they make the perfect pets!
ReplyDeleteThis is the SWEETEST story! Another adorable dog saved from death! And I agree, you were definitely meant to have Foxy!! Luck all around! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet dog and story! You are both lucky to have each other. I feel that a dog (or whatever animal a family picks) completes a family. Any way that is how it felt when we got our dog.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a very sweet story, it brought tears to my eyes :). I agree with you when you say that "rescue dogs KNOW that they are rescued and are always wanting to show how much they love their new family." Two of my 3 Spoiled Dogs are rescues and they are the sweetest most loving creatures. I am so glad your family opened your hearts to this wonderful dog and thank you for sharing your story!!

What a wonderful sweet story, Foxy was meant to be part of your family.
ReplyDeleteoh how cute and what an incredible story! I'm so happy for your all. gorgeous lady!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet, sweet story. Foxy knew she's found the right home. My rescue cat did that to me. I found him, cleaned him up, and started a search for a home. He was rude and surly to potential adoptive parents so I told my hubby we'd just have to keep him. He immediately became a gentle, sweet, soul. He just wanted to stay with us.
ReplyDeleteOh Erin, she is so cute! She reminds me of my parents dog, Lucy, that somebody dropped off out in the boonies where they live. She was such a sweet dog and had obviously just had puppies - don't know what happened to them :( They had her for probably 10 years before she quietly passed. My dad used to lift her over the fence when he went down to feed the horse though she could have easily jumped it - she was his baby :) So happy for you and your cute family that you have a sweet pet who has adopted you!
ReplyDeleteShe's a "Foxy" puppy for sure! Wonderful that you all got together.
ReplyDeleteLots of good loving coming your way.
Carla from Utah
So glad that Foxy chose you guys!
ReplyDeleteWonderful story!
ReplyDeleteAwe what a great story! So glad Foxy found a wonderful, permanent home!
ReplyDeleteFoxy looks so happy with your family. Looks like she knows how much she is loved. All of you are so lucky to have each other!
ReplyDeleteHow precious! Foxy knew a good family when she found one, that's for sure. So happy you guys have given her such a good home. I love to see animals when they have people loving them. You can always tell! Thanks for sharing her story!
ReplyDeleteYou have such a beautiful family! Foxy definitely picked your family! How nice of the other family to give her up. I'm happy that you found her. I only believe in getting dogs that don't have a home. There are way to many dogs and cats that need a home, and I don't believe in breeding.
ReplyDeleteFoxy is beautiful! We have owned 2 Border Collies and love them fiercely!! Our "Buddy" is now 12 and while aged still acts like a youngster at time. Enjoy Foxy...she looks so happy with your family!!
ReplyDeleteFoxy is beautiful! We had a precious Border Collie for 13 1/2 years...her name was Murphy and she was the best dog. Such a people pleaser...so smart and easily trained. but boy....did she have to stay busy! She always needed jobs to do.
ReplyDeleteFoxy will be a great dog for you all! congratulations!
Your Boys are handsome. Thank you for sharing Foxy's story. We had a Blue Heeler mix (14 years old) named Skip...his name fit because he would "skip out" when we were not looking...
ReplyDeleteAn inspiring story to be sure and you can tell how much Foxy is loved! Your family is so precious... Thanks
